NEW PALESTINE — A local high school guidance counselor was arrested Monday amid allegations she stole students’ prescriptions from school nurse’s office.

Michelle Long, 47, a guidance counselor at New Palestine High School, was booked into the Hancock County Jail Monday afternoon. She faces five misdemeanor charges of theft, records show.

The allegations date back to April, records show.

School officials say they began investigating after student’s medications that were being stored in the high school nurse’s office went missing.

The thefts were reported to the New Palestine Police Department for further investigation, and prosecutors filed charges Monday.
