The Greenfield Daily Reporter introduces a new entertainment pages feature geared toward our younger readers. Kid Picks will include events and creative opportunities featuring children and for children.

GREENFIELD – Dance East Ballet Academy, 28 N. East St., is now registering students for summer dance classes including ballet, modern, tap and jazz. Classes are open to ages 18 months through adult from June 4 through 28. Visit danceeastballet.com for more information and to register.

FORTVILLE – Hancock County schools will host week-long sessions of Camp Invention over the summer. J.B. Stephens Elementary, 1331 N. Blue Road, will meet July 16 through 20 for grades K through 6 July 16; New Palestine High School, 4485 S. Victory Drive, welcomes grades 1 through 6 from June 11 to 15. Kids in grades k through 6 can participate in Camp Invention at Fortville Elementary, 8414 N. County Road 200 W, June 11 through 15. Camp Invention features STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) based activities that inspire participants to think creatively and work cooperatively. All sessions are $225 each. INDIANAPOLIS — Tortoises, start your engines at the Zoopolis 500 on Wednesday. The Indianapolis Zoo, 1200 W. Washington St., presents a morning of family-friendly pre-race festivities leading up to the “Greatest Spectacle in Tortoise Racing.” Indy 500-related events include a meet-and-greet with the 500 Festival Princesses, the opportunity for a photo in front of a real pace car, games, animal facts and free chugs of milk (while supplies last). At 11 a.m., racing expert Mike King and Indianapolis 500 Champion Tony Kanaan begin pre-race commentary leading up to the parade lap at 11:30 a.m. Following the parade, Tony Kanaan will serve as Grand Marshal to start the race with the green flag and wave the checkered flag to signal the winner of tortoise race. Following the competition, a “pit crew” member will join the American Dairy Association in the Winner’s Circle to drink a glass of milk on behalf of the winning tortoise. Desert zookeepers will be on hand to answer tortoise-related questions and discuss the Zoo’s efforts to help these endangered animals.
