To the editor:
I have a few issue regarding traffic and parking regulations in Greenfield.
Limiting of parking in downtown to two hours is enforced on some days and not enforced on other days. I had my vehicle ticketed recently while parked on North Street after many months of unrestricted time limits. Whoever makes the decision of enforcement or non-enforcement should inform the public of the way it is going to be. I would suggest taking the parking limit signs down if the ordinance isn’t going to be enforced all the time.
In my opinion, the missing traffic light at North and State streets should be replaced. I frequently use this intersection, and it is frustrating at best and dangerous at worst. I know that INDOT is the decision-maker, but the city should have some input as well.
Last but not least, turn arrows are needed for traffic entering Main Street from State Street. There are turn arrows at private businesses at the former Marsh store and the Speedway station, but not at the main crossroads in Greenfield. I once inquired at the office of a former mayor why this was. His deputy said it is a question of whom is responsible for installing and paying for the arrows. It is a state road crossing a U.S. highway in the city of Greenfield in Hancock County. Don’t we all pay taxes in one way or another to all of these entities?
