GREENFIELD — Indiana State Police officers discovered nearly 80 pounds of marijuana in a car during a traffic stop on Interstate 70 in Greenfield midday Monday, officials said.

Now, two people are in the Hancock County Jail on preliminary charges of drug possession and dealing, records show.

A trooper spotted a 2017 Ford Expedition weaving in and out of the traffic lanes on the interstate around 11 a.m. Monday, police said.

The officer stopped the car and during the subsequent investigation found about 78 pounds of marijuana packed into the vehicle, police said.

The driver, 51-year-old Christian Elie of Elbert, Colorado, and his only passenger, 42-year-old Austin Johnson of Indianapolis, were taken into custody.

Prosecutors are working with police to determine what, if any, criminal charges the pair will face, officials said.

The street value of the marijuana is estimated to be around $250,000, police said.
