Cougars get big win

Grant Hinton gave up one run in his first career varsity start and earned the win Monday as Greenfield-Central rolled past Beech Grove 12-1.

Brady Mundell came in and threw a scoreless inning in relief to finish off the victory.

The Cougars jumped out early, leading 6-0 after the first inning. Beech Grove’s lone run came in the third, and Greenfield-Central tacked on another run in the fourth and five more in the fifth to get the run-rule win.

Nick Atwood led the offensive attack for the Cougars. He went 3-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs. Braxton Turner had a double and two RBIs.

Marauders finish sweep of Delta

Mt. Vernon finished a delayed Game Two of a doubleheader against Delta on Monday, starting with a 7-0 advantage and cruising to an 11-1 win Monday.

Jaden Cappelletti and Mason Montgomery led the Marauders offense. Cappelletti went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a run and an RBI. Montgomery was also 4-for-4 with two runs scored and three runs batted in. Jake Stank added a bases-clearing triple.

AJ Swingle, Cole Cain and Bradley Turner combined to allow one hit on the evening.

SOFTBALL

Huge inning dooms Marauders

Mt. Vernon’s softball squad held an early lead and was tied with Hamilton Southeastern after five innings, 7-7.

But the wheels fell off from there, as the Marauders allowed nine runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh in a 19-7 loss Monday in their second game of the season.

Mt. Vernon was led by Cassidy Parker, whose third-inning grand slam gave her team the early advantage. Kaitlyn Nugent, Jadan Fithian and Haley Kissee each had two hits for the Marauders.

Hamilton Southeastern finished with 20 hits in the win. Mt. Vernon had 11.
