HANCOCK COUNTY — Agape Therapeutic Riding Center raised some $75,000 through the Brackets for Good fundraiser contest this March and April.

Agape, which recently took over Edelweiss Equine-Assisted Therapy Center, 531 W. County Road 100S, made it all the way to the “Philanthropic Four” round of Brackets for Good, a competitive March Madness-style event pitting nonprofits against one another in a contest to see who can raise the most by the championship round, April 3 to 6.

Nonprofit leaders say the event, which raised some $700,000 for 100-plus organizations last year, not only bolsters their fundraising efforts but provides an opportunity for greater exposure than a small nonprofit would be able to achieve on its own.

Two other county organizations were chosen to participate in the Brackets for Good competitions this year: Families United for Support and Encouragement also competed in the Indianapolis bracket, falling in the second round to Neurohope of Indiana, and Shares Inc. competed in the Indiana bracket, falling in the first round to the Rush County Community Foundation.

The winner of this year’s Brackets for Good was Neurohope of Indiana, an organization working to make long-term rehabilitation available and affordable for people recovering from spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury or stroke.
