HANCOCK COUNTY — The National Weather Service issued a series of warnings throughout the day Tuesday as snowfall turned to rain and brought on worries about flooding and tornadoes.

Portions of central and southern Indiana — including Hancock County — remained under a tornado watch at press time. Weather services officials were concerned the thunderstorms experienced throughout the day, across the region, could produce a tornado as rain continued overnight. Winds were expected to hit 70 mph, and experts were predicting lime-sized hail.

After about 2 inches of rain fell on already soaked land, local leaders were forced to close portions of several roadways because of flooding. Area police and fire department took to social media to remind drivers the safest option when encountering standing water on their route is to turn around and avoid the area.
