Alumni association seeks hall of fame nominations

GREENFIELD — The Greenfield-Central Community School Corp.’s alumni association seeks nominations of outstanding alumni for its hall of fame.

The inaugural Greenfield-Central Schools Foundation Red Letter Gala was conducted in 2013, and since then notable alumni have been inducted every year.

Those who are eligible should be a Greenfield-Central High School graduate who has:

  • Been out of high school a minimum of 10 years
  • A special achievement within the nominee’s profession
  • Demonstrated community service and/or
  • Made meritorious contributions to society in general, or to a specific segment of society

Nominees will remain eligible for two consecutive years. Nominees not selected may be re-nominated. The nomination form is at gcschoolfoundation.org.

‘5K Against Violence’ planned on Pennsy Trail

GREENFIELD — Alternatives Inc. plans its second 5K Against Violence for April 14 in Greenfield. The 5K run/walk takes place on the Pennsy Trail, beginning at its intersection with American Legion Place.

Check in begins at 8:30 a.m., and the race begins at 9 a.m.

The event was a creation of a Leadership Hancock County group last year, comprising Alternatives Inc. director Rachel Dennis, Rachel Cremeans, Aaron O’Connor, Robert Harris and Summer Grinstead.

Alternatives Inc., a nonprofit organization, works to rid central Indiana of domestic violence and sexual assault through education, prevention and intervention. The heart of the organization is a 12-suite shelter in Anderson, which holds about 40 people at a time for emergency housing and transitional housing for up to two years.

In 2016, Alternatives served 64 Hancock County victims and influenced 1,400 residents through prevention programming. The Anderson-based shelter for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault serves Madison, Henry, Hancock, Hamilton, Tipton and Marion counties.

Until April 9, the cost of registration is $25. An additional $10 is added after that date; to register, visit getmeregistered.com/alternatives5k. Children 12 and younger get in free, while registration for youths ages 12 to 18 is $15. The price of registration is reduced for large groups. T-shirts will be available while supplies last.

BMV announces Good Friday holiday hours

INDIANAPOLIS — All Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicle branches will be closed March 30 in observance of the Good Friday holiday.

Branches resume regularly scheduled business hours March 31.
