GREENFIELD — Slick roads made for slow commutes Wednesday morning, with dozens of weather-related wrecks reported, particularly on Interstate 70, officials said.

County 911 dispatch records show 26 crashes and 22 slide-offs reported before noon Wednesday, with the majority occurring between 4 a.m. and 9 a.m.

Three of the county’s school districts closed for the day, citing poor road conditions; Greenfield-Central operated on a two-hour delay schedule.

Local first responders took to social media to warn those heading out to drive carefully and cautiously.

More than a dozen slide-offs were reported on eastbound I-70, though both sides of the interstate were reported as icy.

A semi and a box truck each overturned within a mile of each other on the interstate near State Road 9 about 8 a.m. Emergency crews opted to leave the trucks where they were until conditions improved and other wrecks were cleaned up.

Drivers were asked to use caution in the area.

Of the nearly 50 accidents reported Wednesday morning, four resulted in minor injuries.
