GREENFIELD — Indiana State Police officers found more than 120 pounds of marijuana in a minivan during a traffic stop on Interstate 70 in Greenfield Tuesday morning, according to a news release.
A trooper with the Indiana State Police Drug Enforcement Section stopped a Toyota minivan for speeding Tuesday around 11 a.m. , according to the release.
The mini van was eastbound on I-70 near the 95.2 mile marker. It was stopped just west of the Mount Comfort Road exit in Greenfield.
The trooper who conducted the traffic stop said he could smell a strong odor of marijuana and fabric dryer sheets coming from the van while he was talking with the driver, Tong Pan, 43, of Elk Grove, California, and his passenger, Liandi Zhang, 52, of Mechanicsville, Virginia.
A search of the vehicle revealed the pair were hauling several containers and bags that were filled with marijuana, police said.
The drugs were shrink wrapped and individually packaged, police said.
The estimated weight of the marijuana found was more than 120 pounds, police said.
Pan and Zhang told police they were coming from California and headed to Virginia, according to a news release.
Both were placed arrested on a charge of dealing and possession of marijuana. They were taken to the Marion County Jail.
