NEW PALESTINE — A woman died at an Indianapolis hospital Wednesday night after she was struck by a car while walking along U.S. 52 in New Palestine, according to police.

Glenda Meharg, 56, of New Palestine, was walking in the 7400 block of W. U.S. 52 around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, heading home after having dinner with her husband at a nearby restaurant, officials said.

As she tried to cross the street, Meharg was struck by an oncoming car, driven by 19-year-old Logan Beeler, also of New Palestine.

Meharg was rushed to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital. She later died there from the injuries she’d sustained, according to police.

Beeler was not injured in the crash, and he cooperated with the investigators who came to the scene Wednesday night, officials said.

The incident remains under investigation by the Hancock County Fatal Accident Crash Team.

Per investigation protocols, blood samples were taken from Beeler and Meharg.

Both samples will be sent to the Indiana Department of Toxicology for further review; but sheriff’s department officials say at this time they do not consider the crash suspicious.
