‘Hide and Seek’ thriller opens this weekend
CARMEL — Richard and Jennifer Crawford have moved from the city to an old farmhouse to await the birth of their first child. Richard still commutes each day, while Jennifer stays home supervising the handyman and cook who work for them. At first it is the slow pace of restoration that nags them, but a general sense of unease builds as the old house seems to be resisting their intrusion. The lights fail, the plumbing malfunctions, a neighbor stops by with an odd gift (a prayer book for the burial of the dead), but it is the silent little girl whom Jennifer claims she has seen swinging in the backyard who brings on the chilling climax of the play. “Hide and Seek” opens Friday plays through Oct. 29 at the Carmel Community Playhouse, 14229 Clay Terrace Blvd. Visit carmelplayers.org for show times and ticket prices.
Red-headed orphan shares positive outlook in ‘Annie’
CARMEL — Little orphan Annie is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City orphanage run by cruel, embittered Miss Hannigan. With the help of the other girls in the orphanage, Annie escapes to the wondrous world of NYC, foils Miss Hannigan’s deceitful machinations and befriends President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, all the while finding a new home and family with billionaire, Oliver Warbucks. “Annie” plays through Oct. 28 at the Booth Tarkington Civic Theatre at 3 Center Green. Love never dies in ‘Ghost’ at Beef & Boards
