James “Walt” Haynie, 91, of Greenfield, passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at Golden LivingCenter – Brandywine. He was born on August 13, 1926 in Hart County, Georgia as the son of Lonnie and Carrie (Marett) Haynie. Walt married Lottie (Gentry) on May 9, 1990 in Anderson, IN.

He worked for Western Electric in Indianapolis for 34 years before retiring in 1985. Walt was a member of Neal’s Creek Baptist Church in Anderson, SC, IBEW and Telephone Pioneers of America. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, bowling, boating and traveling.

Walt is survived by his wife, Lottie Haynie of Anderson, SC; son, Timothy (Sara) Haynie of Greenfield; stepchildren, Eddie (Darlene) Graham of Anderson, SC, Darlene (Mike) Smith of Anderson, SC and Greg (Alayne) Graham of Clearwater, FL; sisters, Evelyn White of Hartwell, GA, Sara Gurley of Bowersville, GA and Mary Duskin of Anderson, SC; four grandchildren, Kyle (Hannah Turner) Haynie, Hope (Megan) Adams, Dustin Branscum and Madison Williams; six step-grandchildren, Weston, Dillon, Sharon, Karen, Andrew and David; two great-grandchildren, Karson and Kymber; and five step-great-grandchildren, Kennedie, Jared, Emily, Colby and Hensley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie and Carrie Haynie; sister, Dorothy Ballard; and infant brother, Tyrus Haynie.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 13, 2017, from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will take place immediately following the visitation at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis.
