FOUNTAINTOWN

The Fountaintown Community Volunteer Fire Department recently celebrated 60 years of community service.

The department was founded in 1957 by Carlos Jeffries, Bob Miller and John Slifer.

The department is staffed with an average of 20 firefighters and emergency personnel.

Members of the volunteer fire department created a memorial gazebo built in 2015, which was dedicated in 2016, to honor all deceased firefighters. Freeman Family Funeral Homes donated a bronze plaque at the dedication ceremony in memory of all.

To help celebrate the 60th anniversary, families were contacted and asked if they would like to have an individual plaque created and placed in the gazebo to honor their family member.

The fire department conducts several events during the year, including breakfasts, dinners and holiday parties for area children and families. Public education also is ongoing, and the department has a partnership with Brandywine Elementary School.
