Dortha Maxine (Hazzard) Vandenbroeck, 89, of Ingalls, passed away at home on Tuesday, July 4, 2017. Born on October 13, 1927, in Odon, Ind., to the late Charles H. and Lillian (Wade) Hazzard.

Dortha was a graduate of Arsenal Tech High School and married William LeRoy Vandenbroeck in Indianapolis on August 4, 1950. They celebrated 60 years of marriage before his death in 2011.

Dortha was very active in her church, Fortville Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school and missions work. Dortha, along with her husband, received the Distinguished Service Award for serving the church.

She also enjoyed river boat cruises along the Mississippi River and loved to spend time with her family.

Dortha is survived by her children, Elaine Hall, Linda (Michael) Baker, David (Yingxia) Vandenbroeck, Vincent (Barbara) Vandenbroeck, William Vandenbroeck, Rebecca (Joseph) White, Rachel (Andrew) Mitchel; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Dortha was preceded in death by her parents and loving husband; son, Daniel LeRoy Vandenbroeck; grandson, Daniel Benjamin Vandenbroeck; brothers, Virgil Wade, James Hazzard, Kenneth Hazzard; daughter-in- law, Christine Vandenbroeck; and son-in-law, Joseph Hall.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to Noon, Monday at the Fortville Church of the Nazarene, 701 S. Maple St. Fortville. Funeral services for Mrs. Vandenbroeck will be held at Noon on Monday, July 10, at the church. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Dortha sponsored a child each month at Shepherd Community Center, which is an organization that provides resources and supportive relationships needed to succeed in school and life.
