GREENFIELD — St. Michael’s School won first and second place in this year’s Battle of the Books, conducted in April, at the Hancock County Public Library. To prepare for the contest, eighth- and ninth-grade students from area schools read 10 young adult books beginning in March, and then were quizzed by library officials over several rounds. Ten teams competed in all, including students from Doe Creek Middle School, Greenfield-Central High School, Greenfield Central Junior High, Mount Vernon High School and New Palestine High School. Teachers volunteered their time to serve as coaches for the event.
