Hospital foundation announces available scholarships

GREENFIELD, IN – The Hancock Regional Hospital Foundation offers applications for scholarships for students entering a variety of healthcare fields.

Healthcare and Wellness Scholarship

The Healthcare and Wellness Scholarship, created in 2016, supports local students and encourages entry into healthcare and wellness professions. Each year, HRHF will award at least one $2,000 scholarship. Applicants must be a resident or employed in a health care or wellness capacity in Hancock Regional Hospital’s primary service area. Applicants must be post-secondary school students, currently enrolled in a healthcare or wellness program. Examples of eligible fields of study may include, but are not limited to, athletic training, physical therapy, nutrition, pharmacy, social work or general medicine. Nursing students and current high school students are excluded from this scholarship. Students must be enrolled in an associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s or professional degree program.

Selection criteria for this scholarship include academic achievement, community or extracurricular involvement and demonstration of interest and/or experience in healthcare or wellness activities.

Prior recipients of this scholarship may apply again. The scholarship selection committee may request personal interviews with selected applicants. The deadline to apply is March 1.

John F. Stickford Nursing Scholarship

The John F. Stickford Nursing Scholarship will be awarded to at least one student who has been accepted into a bachelor’s or master’s program at an Indiana public university with the intent to become a registered nurse or nurse practitioner. The recipient must agree to work for one year as a nurse in Hancock County or Shelby County for each year that they receive the scholarship. The scholarship will cover an entire year’s tuition cost, with an opportunity to renew the scholarship each year they are in the nursing program. Selection criteria for the scholarship includes academic achievement, community involvement and experience in nursing activities. The deadline to apply is March 1.

Edith Zike Nursing Scholarship

The Edith Zike Nursing Scholarship program will give up to $2,000 to each recipient to support their continued education in the field of nursing. Applicants must be a resident or be employed in the Hancock Regional Hospital primary service area. Applicants may be high school seniors or high school graduates accepted into a nursing or pre-nursing program, nursing students with partially completed programs, or registered nurses pursuing a bachelor’s degree or other advanced degree. Selection criteria include academic achievement, community or extracurricular involvement and demonstration of interest and/or experience in nursing activities. Former recipients of the Zike scholarship are not eligible to reapply. The deadline to apply is March 1.

Radiology scholarships

The foundation offers two scholarships to students attending the Hancock Regional Hospital School of Radiologic Technology. For more information about this program and the scholarships available, please contact Peggy Welage, Director of the School of Radiologic Technology.
