GREENFIELD — Lois Mae Pearson of Greenfield, a retired teacher of 32 years, will celebrate her 100th birthday this year.

She attended Butler University, majoring in education while raising three young children with her husband, William E. Pearson. She started her teaching career in Greenfield at Riley School. She was asked to teach fourth-grade, the grade level she continued to teach her entire 32 years in the education field.

After teaching in Greenfield for two years, Pearson moved schools to Indianapolis Public Schools No. 2.

Family members have followed in her footsteps, as her son taught in Indianapolis Public Schools for more than 30 years and two granddaughters teach within the Greenfield-Central Community School Corp.

Pearson said she still receives letters from students who say how she influenced them or touched their lives in some way.
