Local soccer standouts named to all-state team
The Indiana Soccer Coaches Association announced its 2016 All-State players this week, and several players from Hancock County were recognized.
Mt. Vernon’s Alexi Hardie, Jarrett Whitehouse and Josh Powell each were named to the ISCA All-State Third Team. Greenfield-Central’s Lucy Brand also joined the Marauders’ trio on the ISCA All-State Third Team.
New Palestine’s Meaghan Matus and Mt. Vernon’s Cleo Mills and Jeffrey Boxberger earned ISCA All-State honorable mention.

Football state finals ready to be played
The 44th annual IHSAA Football State Finals will take place today and Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Tickets are $15 per day with all seats general admission. The gates open at 11 a.m. each day.
Three games are scheduled for today, beginning with the Class 2A state title game between Eastbrook (13-1) and Cardinal Ritter (10-4) at noon.
Class 4A NorthWood (14-0) and Roncalli (14-0) will play at approximately 3:30 p.m. The Class 6A title game is set to start at 7:05 p.m. with Carmel (9-4) and Center Grove (12-1) vying for the championship.
Three more games will be played on Saturday, with Pioneer (14-0) and Linton-Stockton (14-0) contending for the Class A title at noon.
Fort Wayne Concordia (12-2) and Lawrenceburg (13-1) compete for the Class 3A championship at 3:30 p.m.
In the Class 5A title game, Westfield (11-2) and Columbus East (13-1) play at 7:05 p.m.
