UPDATE: Man charged with murder related to Greenfield woman’s death

UPDATE: Spencer Spielman of Greenfield has been charged with murder related to the death of 52-year-old Patricia Dresser. Spielman admitted to strangling Dresser during a burglary, court documents state.

Spielman faces one count of murder, one Level 5 felony count of robbery and one Class A misdemeanor of driving while suspended, according to court records.

GREENFIELD — The death of a Greenfield woman who was found dead in her home Thursday night has been ruled a homicide.

Police found Patricia Dresser, 52, dead in her Greenfield home in the 1100 block of Morningside Drive. While investigating the death, officers discovered Dresser’s car was missing.

On Friday afternoon, pathologists in Marion County ruled the death a homicide, according to a news release, but police did not release further details about the death.

Friday evening, officers spotted Dresser’s car traveling in the 1000 block of South State Street in Greenfield. The driver of the vehicle, 20-year-old Spencer Spielman of Greenfield, was questioned by police, and he admitted to taking property from Dresser’s home and killing her, police said.

Spielman was arrested on an outstanding warrant for violating probation and is being held at the Hancock County Jail.

Additional charges are pending, according to a news release.
