Gibson tosses a gem in Twins victory

Greenfield-Central graduate Kyle Gibson was lights out earlier this week against the Detroit Tigers.

Gibson threw an eight-inning gem Tuesday, holding the Tigers to one run en route to an 8-1 victory at Comerica Park. Gibson walked three and struck out four. He scattered five hits, four of them singles.

The win was Gibson’s first since Aug. 17. He was seeking his second career complete nine-inning game, but Twins manager Paul Molitor opted to pull the right-hander after he hurled 108 pitches.

“I wanted to,” Gibson said with a smile. “He told me it was mid-September, but I reminded him I’d been out six weeks earlier, so it was like the beginning of August for me. But it didn’t work. But I appreciate him giving me the eighth there.”

Gibson entered the game with a 5.34 ERA and had allowed at least four runs in four straight outings. He now has six wins and a 5.08 ERA with 90 strikeouts in 131 innings pitched.
