New Palestine residents might see a $16 increase to their monthly wastewater utility bills as town officials move forward with projects to renovate the facility.
Town officials recently approved preliminary plans to invest $6.3 million in renovations to the wastewater plant and its equipment, citing the need for a bigger facility to meet demand.
Residents currently pay an estimated $48 per month for wastewater utilities in New Palestine. The projects would increase bills to approximately $65.
The town’s wastewater plant is nearing capacity, officials say. Without major changes at the utility plant, the town’s wastewater utility runs the risk of being placed on a sewer ban, town officials said, which would prohibit from adding any new customers.
Town officials said they’re concerned about capacity problems and want to address the wastewater plant problems soon.
