Verlin English, 89 a lifelong Rushville resident passed away Saturday, April 30, 2016. Verlin was born September 7, 1926, in Rush County to the late Charles and Ruby (Tinsley) English.

He was a 1944 graduate of Manilla High School. Verlin married Velda Mae Ross on February 15, 1946, and had a wonderful life with her for 40 years before she passed on August 24, 1986.

They raised two sons who survive with their wives, Bill and Susan of Greenfield, Mike and Kathie of Beech Creek, PA, grandchildren, Julie and Steve Foote, Kristi and Bill Oesterle, Shawn English, Shannon and Matt Wolfe and 13 great-grandchildren.

Verlin married Betty Ricker on November 14, 1987, and they had 25 years of fantastic marriage before her death in 2011. They loved traveling to Florida each winter. With the marriage he gained a larger family, step daughters, Nancy and Sam Durham of Osgood, Ind. and Lynn Ellen Marshall of Walton, Ky., grandchildren, Robby and Emily Marshall, Chelsea Durham, Tiffany Cross and three great-grandchildren, all survive.

Verlin spent his working life as a farmer in Rush County. He was an active member and past Deacon of Main Street Christian Church, a 50-year member of the Rushville Masonic Lodge F&AM #42 and the Rushville Elks Club. Verlin was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan and loved to play Euchre.

In addition to his extended family, Verlin is survived by his youngest brother, Tom English and wife, Sondra of Louisville, Ky.

In addition to his parents and both wives, Verlin was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Myron and sisters, Mary Smith, Marjorie Kessler and Evelyn Gurley.

Friends are welcome to visit from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, at Moster Mortuary, Rushville. Masonic memorial services will be held at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday afternoon at the mortuary. Services will be held immediately following at 3 p.m. Pastor John Wall will preside. Entombment will be in East Hill Shrine Mausoleum.

Memorial contributions may be made to Main Street Christian Church or the Rush County Community Foundation.
