GREENFIELD — A local teacher’s aide accused of having sexual relationships with several students was arrested Friday afternoon, a week after charges were filed against her.
Kisha Nuckols, 38, of Fortville, appeared before a judge Friday and pleaded not guilty to four sexual assault-related charges.
Two Mt. Vernon High School students said they met the Fortville mother outside of school for sex on separate occasions, charging documents state. Nuckols admitted to the acts when questioned by police, records state.
Hancock County Circuit Court Judge Richard Culver ordered that Nuckols be held on $20,000 cash bond. She was still in jail at press time Friday.
Culver said Friday in court Nuckols has been hospitalized for the last week, which delayed her arrest. Officers said they knew her whereabouts during that time and made arrangements to pick her up at the earliest possible opportunity.
Nuckols was working as a teacher’s aide at Mt. Vernon Middle School when the allegations arose. She was formerly a substitute teacher at Mt. Vernon High School, officials said. She’s been suspended from her position, barred from coming on school grounds and will be recommended for termination, school officials said.
One victim told police met Nuckols for sex at least 10 times since last fall. Another victim said he met Nuckols once in January in a neighborhood near her home, and they engaged in sex acts in his car, court records state.
Officials said the investigation into Nuckols’ relationship with students enrolled in Mt. Vernon Schools continues, and officials are working to confirm a timeline of events.
When detectives from the Fortville Police Department approached Nuckols about the allegations, she admitted to the acts and said she’d also had inappropriate relationships with four former Mt. Vernon students, court documents state.
Prosecutor Brent Eaton said investigators are looking into Nuckols’ relationships with other students, but records show no new charges have been filed.
Nuckols faces two Level 5 felony counts and one Level 6 felony count of child seduction along with one Level 6 felony count of dissemination of matters harmful to minors.
Each Level 5 felony she faces carries a penalty of one to six years; each Level 6 felony carries a penalty of six months to 2½ years.
She is ordered to have no contact with the alleged victims.
