GREENFIELD — Travis Gibson wrapped up his future recently as he signed his official letter of intent to continue his wrestling career at Manchester University.

A two-time regional qualifier in his prep career at Greenfield-Central, Gibson will join coach Matt Burlingame’s Spartans this fall.

Manchester University is a member of NCAA Division III.

In its history, the wrestling program has produced more than 20 All-Americans and continuously sends representatives to the NCAA Division III Championships.

Under the tutelage of Greenfield-Central wrestling coach Josh Holden, Gibson finished his senior season ranked 17th in the state at 152 pounds by indianamat.com.

As a junior, he wrestled at 170 pounds, finishing the year with an 18-17 record. He placed third at the Shelbyville Sectional to qualify for the Perry Meridian Regional.

The next season, Gibson’s win total reached a career-best 29. Dropping down to 152, the senior found immediate success.

Plowing through the Hoosier Heritage Conference Meet, the senior placed second, leaving the tournament with 25 wins on the year.

At the Warren Central Sectional, he was tournament runner-up.

His only loss came in the sectional finals to Dominic Herrick, who went on to place eighth a few weeks later in the Indiana High School Athletic Association wrestling state finals.

Gibson narrowly missed out on a semistate berth at the Perry Meridian Regional the next week, falling to Indianapolis Howe junior Avione Johnson by decision 12-11 in the opening round.

The Greenfield-Central graduate is the son of Robin and Travis L. Gibson. He earned academic all-state honorable mention honors as a senior.
