The Eastern Hancock baseball team added another tick in the win column Tuesday night in Charlottesville.

With a 4-2 victory against Hagerstown, the Royals now have won five straight.

Senior pitcher Devon Wagoner propelled Eastern Hancock, as he pitched seven innings and allowed two runs, neither of which was earned.

He scattered seven hits and struck out five Tigers (5-5).

On offense, Cole Fout connected on his sixth home run of the season. He finished the night 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

On Friday, the Royals pummeled Mid-Hoosier Conference foe Morristown en route to a five-inning 17-0 victory.

Tom Barton led the way for Eastern Hancock on the mound, pitching five frames of scoreless baseball, allowing just one Yellow Jackets (0-6, 0-3 MHC) hit and striking out nine.

On offense, the Royals continued to torture teams on the basepaths, as they went 10 for 10 in stolen base attempts. Austin Lacy picked up three, while Addison True and Levi Majority each swiped a pair.

At the plate Lacy, True, Cole Fout and Devon Wagoner each collected multi-hit efforts. Barton knocked in three to help his own cause.

Eastern Hancock (8-4, 3-2 MHC) plays again today at Blue River Valley (5-5).

Tennis

New Palestine sweeps Greenfield-Central

The Dragons earned a 5-0 shutout of the Cougars on Tuesday night in Greenfield.

New Palestine players won in straight sets in all but one match.

In the singles matches, No. 1 Kristi LeBeau won 6-3, 6-2; No. 2 Amelia Fleetwood won 6-0, 6-0; and No. 3 Lauren Hardebeck won 6-3, 7-5.

On the doubles courts, the No. 1 team of Jamie Mittman and Cassie Willhelm picked up a 7-5, 7-5 victory, while the No. 2 team of Lexi Meyer and Katie Settergren won 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.

New Palestine coach Chris Hardin also had some good news to report about the injured Alana Henry. The Dragons’ primary No. 1 singles player hurt her knee after falling in her first match at Friday’s Hancock County Championship.

“She’s doing much better,” Hardin said. “She went to the doctor, and they told her nothing was broken and no ligaments were torn. They said it will be two to three weeks before she’ll be able to pass a full mobility test, so we’re hopeful we’ll have her back for sectionals.”
