GREENFIELD — The Greenfield-Central school board Monday approved using saliva swabs for random drug testing of high school and junior high students.

The tests, a change from urine samples, will begin next school year.

The cost of the change is yet to be determined, but officials think it will be less expensive than the current method of testing. School officials will seek bids for a company to perform the tests.

The program is funded through a grant from Neighborhoods Against Substance Abuse.
