Half of the New Palestine wrestling contingent advanced through Friday’s first round of the IHSAA Wrestling State Finals at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

Cameron Diep got things started for the Dragons at 106 pounds. The junior grabbed a 10-8 win against Fort Wayne North’s Ben Streeter (27-5) to move on to today’s quarterfinal’s at 9 a.m.

Diep improved to 42-3, and he’ll face Columbus East’s Graham Rooks (42-1) this morning. The winner will advance to the 106 semifinals. After a break, wrestling resumes at 5 p.m. with the consolations, and finally the championship round at 7:30 p.m.

At 113 pounds, Fairfield’s Blake Glogouski got past New Palestine sophomore Alec White, 3-2. Glogouski improved to 50-2, while White’s season ended at 40-5. Wrestlers had to win their lone match Friday to advance.

Two-time defending state champ Chad Red defeated Evansville Mater Dei’s Alex Johnson (31-4) by fall in the second period (three minutes, eight seconds). Red, 44-0 this season as a junior, will continue his three-peat title quest — and his stated goal of pinning all four of this year’s state finals opposition — in the quarterfinals against Branden Truver (30-10) of Lake Central.

At 220 pounds, Gunnar Larson of Avon (37-3) defeated New Palestine’s Noah Grable 8-3. A senior, Grable finished the year 22-10.

Lawrence North’s Tommy Cash (138) and Cathedral’s Ben Harvey (170) also won Friday.

Site: Bankers Life Fieldhouse, 125 S. Pennsylvania St., Indianapolis 

Admission: $8 per session or $20 both days.

Television: Today’s state championship bouts in each weight class will air live on Fox Sports Indiana. 

Today:

Quarterfinals, 9:30 a.m. with semifinals to follow

Consolations, 5 p.m.

Finals, 7:30 p.m.
