NEW PALESTINE — The Frenzy Animal Rescue in New Palestine is offering temporary shelter for outdoor pets in need of a warm place to stay.

The service is free through Frenzy’s involvement with the county’s COAD (Community Organization Active in Disaster), a group of local agencies and nonprofits that come together with Hancock County Emergency Management to assist the area in times of need.

With temperatures expected to stay in the low to mid-teens for the rest of the week, the organization and Frenzy have teamed up to get dogs and cats out of the cold.

1. Furry friends eat free

Residents looking for a place to house their outdoor pets can called the Frenzy Animal Rescue at 317-414-5662 to schedule a drop off time.

The shelter is located at 37½ W. Mill St. in New Palestine. Animals will be fed and cared for, free of charge.

2. Temperatures dictate length of stay

Temporary shelter will be offered to pets when temperatures are 10 degrees or below. Owners are asked to pick up their pets once temperatures are back above 10 degrees.

Frenzy can house 25 pets, but the shelter’s volunteers have offered to bring animals into their own homes if necessary.

3. Other agencies pitch in

Greenfield-Hancock Animal Management can also provide residents with outdoor animals with extra straw, blankets, coats and other items items, but their facility is full and cannot shelter pets at this time. Call 317-477-4367 for more information.
