Department to hire new officers

GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Police Department is looking to hire at least two new police officers to fill vacancies in the department.

Chief John Jester told the Greenfield Board of Works and Public Safety that he has been in communication with the mayor and hopes to bring names of people he’d like to hire to the board at its next meeting.

Lieutenant Bob Young retired at the beginning of the year, and Scott Laymon resigned Monday, leaving two lieutenant positions open.

The board also approved two promotions. Rick Wilcher is promoted from sergeant to lieutenant. Officer Matt Holland is promoted from patrolman to lieutenant.
