Jack L. Vickers, 77, of Indianapolis, passed away Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, at Hancock Regional Hospice. He was born on May 7, 1937, in Shelburn, Ind., as the son of Frank and Gladys (Craig) Vickers.

He graduated from Shelburn High School in 1955. He served in the Army from 1958-1960.  Jack married Lisa (Dudley) on Jan. 9, 1982, in Hazelwood, Ind.

He worked for Indiana Farm Bureau for 37 years before retiring in 1992. Mr. Vickers was a member of Cumberland Christian Church, WWII Round Table, and American Legion #182 in New Palestine.  He was also involved in the NRA and Model T Club. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, hunting, and fishing. Jack enjoyed military history from WWII and the Civil War. He also liked cruising around in his Model T and he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Jack is survived by his wife, Lisa Vickers of Indianapolis; children, Mandy (Joe) Sitler of New Palestine, Jeff (Theresa) Vickers of Wilkinson, and Steve (Ashli) Vickers of Noblesville; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Gladys (Craig) Vickers and sister, Jean Akers.

Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015, at Cumberland Christian, 39 North Starter Street, Indianapolis, IN 46229. Pastor Tom Scott will be officiating.  Burial will follow at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson with full military rites presented by the Greenfield Veterans Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be sent to Cumberland Christian, 39 North Starter Street, Indianapolis, IN 46229 or envelopes will be available at the mortuary.
