Robert J. "Bob" Rozzi

Robert J. "Bob" Rozzi, 74, Logansport, passed away at 5 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30, 2013, in St. Vincent’s Hospital, Indianapolis, following a brief illness. Born August 29, 1938, in Logansport, he was the son of Charles and Rose Marie Bessignano Rozzi.

He was married to Anita Firmani Rozzi. Bob was a Logansport City Police Officer from 1966 to 1998, during which time he served as Chief of Police for eight years. In 1999, he was elected Cass County Sheriff for a four-year term. He then was a private investigator for two years. A 1956 Logansport High School graduate, Bob attended Ball State University and received numerous professional training certificates from the University of Notre Dame. He was a huge Notre Dame fan. He was a veteran of the Army. Bob was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), was president and life member of the Indiana Association of Chiefs of Police, and a member of the Indiana Sheriffs’ Association, where he was past president. Bob was the past president and board member of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. In 1970, he received the Distinguished Service Award from the Logansport Jaycees. In 1993, he was named "Policeman of the Year" by the VFW Post 3790. Other memberships include the American Legion Post 60, VFW Post 3790, Monticello Amvets Post 91 and the Logansport Elks, BPOE #66. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, and member of the Knights of Columbus, where he served as Grand Knight. In 1974, he was named Logansport's "Catholic Layman of the Year".

Surviving Bob are his wife, Anita Firmani Rozzi of Logansport; stepson, David Price of Logansport; stepdaughter, Dr. Monica (Kevin) Kowaleski of Greenfield; sons, Robert (Joyce) Rozzi of Fishers, and Charles “Chip” (Paula) Rozzi of Thornton, Colo.; daughter, Nikki (Chris) Mahaney of Tipton; sister, Nancy (Jack) Cain, Walton; grandchildren, Robbi Mahaney, Christopher Rozzi, Jordan Rozzi, Christopher Rozzi, Jessica Price, Morgan Mahaney, Nicholas Price, Molly Mahaney, Meisha Price and Brady Price; father-in-law, Lawrence Firmani of Logansport; and sister-in-law, JoAnn (Michael) Zabawa, Bloomington; nieces, nephews, cousins and Jenny Price.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother in 1953, Anthony Rozzi; and mother-in-law, Clara Firmani.

Visitation will be from 2 – 8 p.m. Sunday, August 4, 2013, at Kroeger Funeral Home, where the Elks Lodge will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. Officers of the Logansport Police Department and Cass County Sheriff’s Department will stand guard during the visitation.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, August 5, 2013, at All Saints Catholic Church. Father Mike McKinney and Father Dominic Petan will officiate. The FOP will conduct a memorial service at All Saints Catholic Church just prior to the conclusion of Mass. Burial, with full military honors, will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
