John W. Matthewson Jr., 78 of New Palestine, passed away on Nov. 26, 2012. He was born on March 1, 1934, in Indianapolis, the son of John w. and Delpha Matthewson, Sr.
He retired from working in the pump room at Ford Motor Co. after of 40 years of service. John served with the 82nd Airborne of the Army during the Korean War and attended Church 52.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Matthewson; daughters, Carol (Everett) Mitchell, Scherrie (Jeff) Golden and Rhonda (Gene) Perkins; son, James Matthewson; brother, Jerry Matthewson; grandchildren, Brian Mitchell, Glenn Mitchell, Kim Forgue, Scott Golden, Jason Golden, John Tunell, Melissa Matthewson and Jordan Matthewson; 15 great- grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Matthew Stow and Amanda Tunell. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at Flanner and Buchanan – Washington Park East 10722 E. Washington St. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at the funeral center. Entombment, Washington Park East Cemetery.
