Mary Louise "MaryLou" Brookfield, age 89, was born to Harold I and Evelyn Ellis on Dec. 17, 1921, in Uniontown, Pa.. MaryLou went to her final resting place on Monday, Oct. 24, 2011 in Greenfield.
MaryLou was a graduate of Uniontown High School in Uniontown, Pa. and spent her working years as an administrative assistant. She held jobs at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., the Greenfield-Central School System, the Dickmann, Dickmann and Reason Law Firm, and the Sacred Heart Parish in Pinehurst, N.C. MaryLou met her lifelong companion, Price Brookfield, when working at the Pentagon building while Price was in the U.S. Navy. In addition, MaryLou enjoyed watching her husband participate in sports as an NBA basketball player and as a high school basketball coach and always showed great support for these activities.
Upon their retirement, MaryLou and Price moved to Pinehurst, N.C. and joined the Pinehurst Country Club. Both shared a great interest in the game of golf and traveled to many parts of the United States. She also enjoyed playing cards with her many friends at Pinehurst Country Club. MaryLou and Price were fortunate to have had more than 25 years of fulfilling retirement together in North Carolina. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pinehurst, N.C. and St Michael's Catholic Church in Greenfield.
MaryLou moved back to Greenfield in Oct., 2010, and lived at Crown Pointe Senior Living Center until the time of her death.
She is survived by her 3 children: son, Bill (Donna) Brookfield of Greenfield; daughter, Barbara (Jerry) Kemerly of Fortville; son, John (Sherry) Brookfield of Pinehurst, N.C. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Tom (Leslie) Wright of Greenfield; Peter (Sherry) Wright of Fort Wayne, Ind.; Jennifer Brookfield of Indianapolis; Joe (Denise) Brookfield of Orlando, Fla.; and Heather Brookfield of Pinehurst, N.C. In addition, she is survived by 13 great grandchildren: Jordan, Zachary, Taylor, Brady, Erin, Emily, and Cameron Wright of Greenfield; Drake, Jared, and Sarina Wright of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and Thomas, Zackary, and William Brookfield of Orlando, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 60 years, Price Brookfield, in April 2006. She was also preceded in death by her only sibling, Harry C Ellis, in March 2008.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011 at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. No memorial services will be held in Greenfield. Boles Funeral Home and Crematory in Pinehurst, NC will handle a visitation and the memorial service/funeral mass. The plans in North Carolina are still pending. Interment will take place at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
