Anna Marie “Granny” Johnson

Anna Marie “Granny” Johnson, age 97, of McCordsville, passed away on Monday, Sept. 26, 2011, in Indianapolis. Born on May 17, 1914, in Estevan, Saskatchewan, Canada, she was the daughter of John Jacob Lind and Maria (Milinovitch) Lind.

Anna graduated from South Haven High School in Michigan and attended secretarial school before marrying Vern Johnson in 1933. She worked as a farmer and homemaker as well as a secretary in special services at Fort Benjamin Harrison for about 18 years. From 1993 until the present, she also worked with a produce farm. Anna was also involved in 4-H activities in Hancock County.

 Surviving her are her children, Barbara A. Overton of St. Petersburg, Fla., Marthanna (Marion) Hensley of Fortville, Marie (John) Tellman of Columbus, Ind., Philip L. Johnson of McCordsville, and Vernette Beesley of McCordsville; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; daughter, Catherine Sue Johnson; two infant children; and granddaughter, Debbie Myers.

Visitation will take place from 11 a.m. until noon on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, at Erlewein Mortuary in Fortville. Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, at the funeral home. Reverend Ray Ellis, a McCordsville native, will be conducting the service. Burial will follow at Oddfellow Cemetery in Oaklandon, Ind. Because Halloween was Anna’s favorite holiday, her family would also like to honor her by having a party in her memory on Halloween night at her home in the doghouse.
