Deloris C. Shafer, age 80, of New Palestine, passed away into the arms of her Savior on Thursday, March 31, 2011, in Indianapolis. Born on January 1, 1931, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Neely and Estella (Fordyce) McDuffee.
Deloris graduated from Warren Central High School in 1949 and married Donald E. Shafer on January 28, 1950, in North Vernon. She had previously worked as a cashier at Southern Hancock Schools and as a secretary at Crown Laundry. She was also co-owner for Del-Net Catering and made wedding cakes for many area brides. Deloris was a member of Community Christian Church.
Surviving her are her husband, Donald E. Shafer of New Palestine; daughters, Dawn (Dave) Purcell of Fountaintown and Darla (Ken) Hurst of Valrico, Fla.; grandchildren, David (Andrea) Purcell and Jay Hurst; and great grandchildren, Briley Williams, Grant Purcell, and Elena Purcell.
Preceding her in death were her parents; sister, Devorbia Willis; and granddaughter, Dena Purcell Williams.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, April 4, 2011, at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at the mortuary. Burial will take place at New Palestine Cemetery.
