Jack R. Parks, age 76, of Greenfield, passed away on March 6, 2011, at Hancock Regional Hospital. Born on June 30, 1934, in Carrolton, Ill., he was the son of James Ray and Mary Lou Parks of Greenfield, Ill.

He was the previous owner of Paul Akers, Inc. in Greenfield, a propane and ammonia equipment and engineering company. Mr. Parks was also active in numerous propane gas associations in Ky. and Ind. and served as advisor to the Kentucky Fire Marshall Propane Division. Mr. Parks presented numerous safety presentations and education for the propane and anhydrous ammonia industry in Indiana and surrounding states. He was also a United States Army veteran who served in France.

Surviving him are his wife, Bettye Parks; son, Michael Parks; stepchildren, Andrea Smith and Nathan Fine; grandchild, Jacquelyn Parks; step-grandchildren, Andrew Smith, Kaitlin Smith, and Elliott Fine.

Preceding him in death were his parents and step-son, William Bradford Fine.

Visitation will be from 4p.m. until 8p.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2011, at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will take place at 3p.m. on Friday, March 11, 2011, at the mortuary. Burial will take place at Park Cemetery.
