Virginia Mae (Bennett) Alfont, 79, passed away Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011. She was born Dec. 25, 1931, in Hancock County, to the late Chester and Margaret (Savill) Bennett.

She was a graduate of Eden High School. She served for many years as the secretary for Ingalls Elementary School and later, the Fortville Community Shopper. Mrs. Alfont was a member of Cyntheanne Christian Church.

She is survived by her son, Kevin E. (Gail) Alfont of Carthage; daughter, Jana D. (Dek) Sanborn of Fortville; grandchildren, Stephanie Kirlin, Matthew (Angela) Kirlin, Mark Gauzens and Rorie Sanborn; great-grandchildren, Dillon Martin, Chase Martin, and Gary Russell Head; sister, Nancy Ayers of Noblesville; and son-in-law, Joe Gauzens of Scottsdale, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene M. Alfont in 2000; daughter, Sara M. Gauzens; brothers, Roy Wayne Bennett, Bertie L. Bennett, and David Steven Bennett; sister-in-law, Jane Bennett; and brother-in-law, Herbert Ayers.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at Seals Funeral Home, Fortville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., with calling from 10 a.m., on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at Cyntheanne Christian Church, 13151 Cyntheanne Road, Fishers. Burial will follow at Mendon Cemetery, Pendleton.
