Dorothy M. Brackney, age 92, passed away on Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, at Sugar Creek Nursing Home. Born on Feb. 20, 1918, in Montgomery County, Ohio, she was the daughter of George H. and Elsie (Havens) Menchen.

Dorothy graduated from Stivers High School in Dayton, Ohio, and married William W. Brackney on Sept. 4, 1937. She worked in personnel and administration for many years and was a United States Army veteran who served in WWII. Mrs. Brackney was a member of the New Palestine United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts.

Surviving her are her children, John (wife, Carol) Brackney, and Dona (husband, Daniel) D'Angelo; son-in-law, James Kilby; grandchildren, Sunny D'Angelo (fiancé, Jeff Robinson), Jasmine D'Angelo, Melaine (Hayslip) Betz (husband, Tom), and Michelle (Hayslip Scamblis) Allen (husband, Rick); and two great-grandchildren, Nicolas and Alexis Scambilis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William W. Brackney. Preceding her in death by three days was her sister, Floretta Menchen. Also preceding her in death were her daughter, Mila (Hayslip) Kilby; brother, George E. Menchen; and sister-in-law, Betty Jane Menchen.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Forrest Hills Memorial Gardens in Tipp City, Ohio the following day.
