Mt. Vernon High School named one of the nation’s best

FORTVILLE — Mt. Vernon High School was recently listed as one of U.S. News & World Report’s “Best High Schools” for 2021. MVHS sits in the top 40 percent of the nation’s high schools and is now ranked 36th within Indiana and 15th in the Indianapolis metro area. The 2021 edition of Best High Schools includes a numerical ranking of nearly all public high schools nationwide – almost 18,000 of them. See the full U.S. News & World Report on Mt. For this accolade, the U.S. News & World Report used data from the 2018 – 2019 school year. During that year, the advanced placement (AP) class participation rate at Mt Vernon High School was 55 percent and the college readiness index was up 10 points from the previous year at 41.2. The college readiness index rank is based on the proportions of seniors who took and passed at least one AP exam. MVHS students’ National Percentile on College-level AP Exams was 88 percent. The graduation rate was 94 percent, averaging several percentage points above the state median.
