McCORDSVILLE — Two of the passengers in a boat crash resulting in injuries in a Fort Lauderdale port early New Year’s Eve are from McCordsville, according to Florida authorities.

A 42-foot center console Hydra-Sport Custom boat with four people on board struck a jetty at Port Everglades at around 12:14 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, according to an incident report from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Division of Law Enforcement.

The report identifies the McCordsville passengers as Lauren Silagy, 32; and Jarret Silagy, 39. Daniel Towriss, 47, Zionsville; and Cassidy Rudman, 25, were also on board, according to the report.

The Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel reported that employees of Portside Marine Sales and Service, a boat dealer in Cicero, confirmed that Jarret Silagy is the president of the company.

The Sun Sentinel also reported that the boat, owned by Towriss, was so new it hadn’t yet been registered.

All occupants survived the crash, and one of the women was hospitalized in serious condition, according to a statement from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, although neither it nor the incident report identifies the victim.

The incident report states the boat was attempting to enter the Port Everglades inlet when it struck the jetty. Two occupants were ejected and three were transported to a hospital, according to the report, but it does not identify them. A towing company removed the vessel from the jetty, the report concludes.

Investigators were also trying to determine the operator at the time of the crash, according to the agency’s statement.

The Sun Sentinel reported that navigational charts showed that the boat was hundreds of feet away from channel markers, and it quoted Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Michael Kane as saying that the area was very dark at the time of the collision.
