FORTVILLE — Students in Jessica Daugherty’s high-ability class at Fortville Elementary School recently participated in a hands-on STEM project with Katey Kitterman from Sunrise Bakery.

Students were assigned to create a bakery of their own. The project involved creating a business model, assembling a recipe chart and developing marketing techniques to help them learn about strategic planning.

To simulate the environment of a small bakery and the demand for well-made products, students filled doughnut orders. Also, students brainstormed flavor ideas for doughnuts. Sunrise Bakery plans to use some of the ideas the students came up with as products to be sold.

Daugherty and Kitterman plan to collaborate on a Fortville Elementary Donut Day at Sunrise Bakery for students and their families to try the flavors they created.
