GREENFIELD — A sheriff’s deputy who stopped a vehicle for a burned-out headlight this week found nearly 160 grams of marijuana, a stolen gun and slew of pills inside the vehicle, according to court documents. The driver was booked into the Hancock County Jail as a result.

Aaron R. Grady, 31, 11413 Cuyahoga Drive, Indianapolis, now faces seven criminal counts accusing him of drug dealing, drug possession and theft, among other charges, records show.

Grady was arrested just after midnight on Tuesday. He has since been released from jail on a $2,000 cash bond, records show. He’s pleaded not guilty to the charges he faces.

A Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputy stopped Grady traveling northbound on County Road 800W near County Road 300N early Tuesday, according to court records.

Grady’s 2008 Chevrolet Impala had its brights on, and the deputy said he flashed his own bright lights to alert Grady to dim his lights. When Grady did, it revealed the right side headlight of his car was out, according to a police report.

The deputy then pulled Grady over. When the officer got to Grady’s window, he said he could smell freshly sprayed air freshener and marijuana, according to police records.

The deputy asked Grady to get out of the vehicle. When asked if there was any marijuana in the car, Grady admitted the officer would likely find a few marijuana cigarette ends inside, court documents state.

When the deputy searched Grady, he found more than $400 cash in his pockets. Grady said the money was given to him by family members, according to police records.

The deputy search the vehicle and found loose marijuana on the floorboard and in a cup holder, according to police records.

In the trunk, the officer found bags of marijuana, weighing a total of 159.6 grams. He also found Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) oil, 17 different pills, a digital scale, plastic baggies and rubber bands, a wooden pipe, a grinder, rolling papers and a container with plant-like residue, according to police records.

Underneath that duffel bag in the trunk, the officer found a 9-millimeter Beretta handgun, the serial number of which came back as stolen from Morgan County, according to police reports.

Grady told police the pills were ecstasy and that a search of his mobile phone would reveal evidence of him selling marijuana, according to police records.

Grady was arrested and taken to the Hancock County Jail. He faces: one Level 5 felony count of dealing a schedule 1 controlled substance; one Level 5 felony count of carrying a handgun without a license; one Level 6 felony count of dealing marijuana; one Level 6 felony count of maintaining a common nuisance; one Level 6 felony count of theft of a firearm; one Class A misdemeanor of possession of a controlled substance; and one Class B misdemeanor of possession of marijuana.

Grady pleaded not guilty to the charges during a preliminary hearing this week. He’s expected back in court in December.
