GREENFIELD — In celebration of Arbor Day, Regreening Greenfield will offer free tree seedlings at 9 a.m. April 28 at the Hancock County Courthouse Plaza. Distribution continues while supplies last.
800 seedlings will include American Plum, Virginia Pine, Black Oak, Bald Cypress, White Oak, Swamp Chestnut Oak, Chestnut Oak and White Pine.
Donations are welcome and encouraged. Proceeds benefit Regreening tree-planting projects around the city. Local student volunteers will assist Regreening members.
The first Arbor Day happened more than 140 years ago when J. Sterling Morton, US Secretary of Agriculture, declared that trees should have their own day of recognition and appreciation.
The local Arbor Day Celebration supports the Regreening mission to contribute to the quality of community life through the preservation and restoration of the city’s urban forest.
