Get tickets for girls basketball regional

Tickets for Saturday’s girls basketball regional are now on sale in the New Palestine High School athletics office.

The Dragons will play No. 1 Pike at 10 a.m. in the opening game of Saturday’s regional at Decatur Central High School. Brownsburg and Warren Central meet in the second semifinal, with the championship game slated for 8 p.m.

All-session tickets are $10 and will be sold in the athletics office during school hours through Friday afternoon. Single-session tickets are $7 and will only be available at the door Saturday at Decatur Central.

New Palestine (18-6) earned its regional berth with a 45-39 victory against Mt. Vernon in the Connersville Sectional. This is the Dragons’ fifth regional appearance and first in 14 years.

Mt. Vernon offering free football camp

Mt. Vernon football coach Mike Kirschner will be conducting a free camp beginning Feb. 12 for linemen and skill positions.

The camp will include four sessions and will be at the Mt. Vernon Performance Enhancement Center on Feb. 12, 26 and March 5, and inside the Mt. Vernon High School main gym Feb. 20.

Linemen will train from 6 to 7 p.m. on each of the four days. Skill position players will train from 7 to 8 p.m.

The camp is open to students in kindergarten through 11th grade. Participants must wear gym clothes and athletics shoes.

Boys sectional pairings shows set

Sectional pairings for the 108th IHSAA boys basketball state tournament will be announced at 5 p.m. Feb. 18.

A two-hour program will stream exclusively on the IHSAA’s video portal at IHSAAtv.org (no television) and via affiliates of the IHSAA Champions Radio Network. The pairings will be made available on IHSAA.org after the conclusion of the broadcast.

The pairings shows will no longer air on Fox Sports Indiana as it has in recent years but instead will be replaced with a tournament preview show. The boys tip-off program will air at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22 on Fox Sports Indiana.

HHC basketball honoree announced

The Hoosier Heritage Conference announced its weekly honorees for boys basketball Tuesday. A player of the week was chosen based on his individual performances for the week ending Feb. 3.

Trent Miller, Pendleton Heights

The Arabians’ senior guard had two big nights in two conference wins. He had 19 points in 13 minutes in an 81-44 win against Yorktown on Feb. 1 and followed up with a 31-point performance two days later in a 64-49 victory against New Palestine on Saturday. Miller also had five rebounds and three assists against New Palestine.
