Wise earns Big 12 Freshman of the Week

Iowa State guard Madison Wise, a Greenfield-Central graduate, captured Big 12 weekly honors, the league announced Monday. Wise was named Big 12 Freshman of the Week.

Wise was a big contributor for the Iowa State Cyclones on the week, averaging 11.0 points, 3.0 rebounds while shooting 53.3 percent from the floor and going 5 of 10 from long range.

Wise shined at Vanderbilt, netting 14 points for Iowa State and grabbing three rebounds, while going 5 of 7 from the field. Against the Bulldogs, she tallied eight points and grabbed three rebounds.

Wise has started four games for the Cyclones this season and is averaging 7.9 points and 4.3 rebounds per contest through seven games.

Local football standouts earn All-State honors

The Indiana Football Coaches Association announced its 2017 Senior and Junior All-State Teams this week.

Several Hancock County standouts were recognized, including five from the New Palestine Dragons.

The Hoosier Heritage Conference champion Dragons were represented on the Class 5A Senior All-State Team by senior linebacker Josh Glover on defense.

New Palestine junior Colby Jenkins was selected to the Junior All-State Team on offense as an athlete. Offensive lineman Austin Keele, a junior, and running back Luke Canfield, a sophomore, also made the team.

On defense, New Palestine sophomore defensive back Maxen Hook was named to the Junior All-State Team.

Several Eastern Hancock players earned honors at 2A with senior A.J. Muegge being named a defensive back on the Senior All-State Team.

Royals offensive lineman Brady Stephens, a junior, earned a spot on the Junior All-State Team. Alexander Burton, a junior, was named to the 2A Junior All-State Team as a defensive lineman.

Dragons, Marauders earn all-state nods

The Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association released it 2017-18 all-state honorees in volleyball to the state’s coaches this week.

Among the state’s top players were three Hancock County standouts.

New Palestine’s Allison Dennemann, a senior, was named to the ICGSA Class 4A All-State First Team.

Mt. Vernon senior Grace Hurst, who was a South All-Star with Dennemann this year, also earned a spot on the 4A All-State First Team.

Mt. Vernon’s Victoria Bulmahn, a sophomore, was recognized on the 4A All-State Second team.

Langford named IBCA Player of the Week

New Albany senior Romeo Langford produced a double-double with 47 points and 12 rebounds to headline the recipients in this week’s IBCA/Subway Player of the Week program.

Langford is joined by Westview sophomore Charlie Yoder and Lapel junior Luke Richardson as boys’ winners for the week of Nov. 27 through Dec. 2. The girls’ honorees are Chesterton senior Courtney Krol, Frankton senior Sydney Tucker and Bloomington South junior Addisyn Blackwell.

The 6-foot-5 Langford is the first two-time recipient of the 2017-18 after also being honored a week ago.
