Property tax payment deadline approaches

GREENFIELD — The second installment of property taxes are due Nov. 13 at the Hancock County Treasurer’s Office, which is located at 111 American Legion Place, Suite 205, Greenfield.

The office is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. The office will be closed Nov. 10.

Taxes can be paid in the office with a check, cash or credit/debit card. They can also be dropped off at the drop box in front of the courthouse annex, 111 American Legion Place, through midnight Nov. 13.

To pay online with a credit or debit card, log on to hancockcoingov.org and go to the Tax Payment button. The credit card company charges a fee — 2.75 percent or $3.95 — for paying online.

This year, taxpayers can also pay online with an electronic check. A $1.95 fee will be charged.

Tax payments may also be mailed to the office. The envelope must be postmarked by Nov. 13. Any postmark after Nov. 13 will receive a penalty.
