Burnell J. “The Sugar Creek Wanderer” Petry, 93 of Highland, Ill., died Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at his residence in Highland. Born November 29, 1923, in Highland, the son John and Olinda (nee Carrillon) Petry.
Survivors include his sons, Thomas L. Petry, Vandalia, IL, Donald J. (Loretta Gebhart) Petry, Beckemeyer, IL, Mark A. Petry, Highland, IL; daughter, Susan M. (Thomas) Miller, Fountaintown, Ind.; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary F. Petry; and brother, Linus Leo Petry.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, July 10, and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Memorial Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11, at Saint Paul Catholic Church in Highland, with Rev. Father Pat G. Jakel officiating. Interment will be at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Highland.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul School Educational Foundation; Masses at St. Paul Catholic Church; Father Richard Potthast or U M Veterinary Oncology Support Fund.
