Robert D. ‘Bob’ Schrieber
Robert D. “Bob” Schrieber, 82, of Greenfield, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at Kindred Nursing Home in Greenfield. Born on May 6, 1935, in Indianapolis as the son of Curtis Max and Louise Schrieber.
A lifelong Greenfield resident, Bob was a 2nd generation painting contractor for more than 60 years, and painted hundreds of homes, farms and commercial buildings in the Greenfield/Hancock County area. He also worked in the painting department at Western Electric in Indianapolis for nearly 8 years. In addition to his many years in the painting business, Bob was also a chauffeur on the Greenfield Fire Department in the 1960’s, and co-owned the Pizza Palace restaurant in Greenfield for 25 years.
Bob graduated from Greenfield High School in 1954, where he lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track. He also played softball for several years after high school and supported and coached little league baseball in Greenfield for many years.
Bob thoroughly enjoyed painting and talking with his many customers. He also enjoyed fishing, watching all sports on TV, baking bread and cookies, visiting with family and socializing with friends at local restaurants.
Bob is survived by his brother, Charles C. (Joyce) Schrieber; son, Curtis D. (Diane) Schrieber; daughter, Margie L. (Jeff) Goble; stepdaughter, Debbie J. (Steve) Wilkerson, all of Greenfield; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carol Ann Schrieber; infant brother, Karl Schrieber; wife, Anna May (Brinkman) Schrieber; and stepsons, George A. “Sonny” Brinkman and Daniel A. Brinkman.
A brief memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 11, with a gathering lasting until 6 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. U.S. Hwy. 40, Greenfield. There will be no graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Boys and Girls Club of Hancock County, 715 E. Lincoln St, Greenfield, IN 46140 envelopes will be available at the mortuary.
