The Mt. Vernon boys track team placed second at the Pendleton Heights Invitational on Thursday night.

The invitational was suspended during the high jump event due to thunderstorms. Mt. Vernon was in position to potentially win the invite with the high jump, but all points were erased with only two jumps left.

Pendleton Heights won the invite with 126 points. Mt. Vernon finished with 116.5 and Anderson was third with 105.

Jailin Porter claimed the 100-meter dash for Mt. Vernon in 12.18 seconds. The Marauders led the invitational by one or two points until the end despite not claiming another event win.

Porter was second in the 200 at 23.78. Drew Bluethmann was runner-up in the 3,200-meter run at 10:15.54.

Nathan Seifert was third in the shot put while the Marauders placed third in six events overall, including all three relays.

The Marauders are at the Noblesville Invitational on Tuesday.

Baseball

Royals top Liberty Christian

The Eastern Hancock baseball team improved to 6-4 on the season with a 9-2 win against Liberty Christian on Thursday.

The Royals led from the opening frame, scoring one run in the bottom of the first and were up 3-0 entering the fifth. A five-run outburst by the Royals in the bottom of the sixth put the game out of reach.

Eastern Hancock’s lineup posted seven hits, including a double by Addison True, who was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Clayton White was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Easton Fields finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Levi Majority had won hit and two RBIs.

Fields earned the pitching win with six strikeouts through six innings of work. He scattered five hits and allowed two earned runs with one walk. True closed the game with a flawless no-hit seventh inning.

Eastern Hancock is at Triton Central today for a doubleheader beginning at 10 a.m.

Golf

Marauders best Arabians

The Mt. Vernon boys golf team racked up another win on the season as the Marauders defeated host Pendleton Heights 151-167 at Fall Creek Golf Course.

Oliver Mast shot a 2-under par 33 for medalist honors on Thursday. Fellow senior Will Dant carded a 38. Xavier Dunham was second-best at 37, while Max Heitman shot a 43. Freshman Elijah Dunham came in at 49.

The Marauders JV team shot a 167 at the course. John Husar posted the team’s lowest round at 39. Blake Johnson had a 42 along with Jacob Shelton. Ben Lyday and Drew Richter both recorded 44s. Davis Knight finished with a 49.

The Marauders host their own invitational today at Arrowhead Golf Course beginning at 10 a.m.
